A Ghost in the Machine (II)

My MX5 is making a new noise.

That is not as worrying as when the smoke comes out, but it is not a good thing. (Cars run on smoke - that's why when it escapes you're usually in trouble).

Anyhow, no smoke has yet appeared, but the noise is a worry.

It seems to emanate from the water pump housing, isn't obvious on idle or when the motor is cold, but appears with a vengeance on the overrun when it's warmed up.

My fellow members in the local MX5 owners' club have provided a range of suggestions from a sick alternator to a problem with the timing chain tensioner.

I know nuffink.

That is why I took it to my local mechanic who had just replaced a water pump on my son's Mazda 323. Interestingly, it has covered a similar distance (about 120000 kms). Maybe there's something about Mazda BP-ZE engines and water pumps at 120000 kms. Or perhaps there is some kind of perfidious virus. They shared a garage for a time. There was no social distancing.

MLM* (whom I trust) had a listen and reckoned it was nothing to worry about. When I asked him if it would be OK to drive to Canberra (which had been my plan) he said "sure".

I trust him, but not that far. I have changed my plans.

Yesterday I took a deep breath and drove it the 146 kms to Automotive Plus (free plug) whose boss mechanic, after complaining that the motor was hot (it was - after driving from Toowoomba), declared that it was most likely a water pump bearing.

It got me home, and the noise is no worse.

So now, I have to decide whether to get the job done locally, or at the specialist's setup in Brisbane. The latter will require two days. You can't expect people to work on a hot motor after a 146 km highway run.

I'll keep you posted.

Hence the II.

*My Local Mechanic.

Too difficult for you to answer questions or debate your inconsistencies eh blogger?

In relation to your last comment on the previous post...you have me confused with someone else. I am not John Grey. I am not here all day as you would have others believe. I type a little faster than many of my age. In your own inimitable style, instead of commenting on what I had to say, you used a little flare in telling me to P.O. A simple "noted and dismissed" or "we have different ideas on the subject" would suffice. Being verbose is surely a waste of your time but not your limited writing skills.

Porky Seven returnee that happily did not serve closely with you.

My blog - my rules.
But you've given me an idea.
I should discard comments that have nothing to do with the thread.
On second thoughts, probably not.
That would ruin the fun.

As a Catholic, the blogger must be very happy with Chris Mitchell's evisceration of the anti-Pell brigade getting Walkley Awards.
Calling out political activism over truth and accuracy is a brave move when so many appear to have disregarded the High Court decision to exonerate the Cardinal. Any comment, blogger?

Numbers should be pleased someone is here - he certainly doesn't spend any time at all updating posts and replying to comments. Why, it's almost as though he spends all day reading the Catallaxy Files.

I do like Chris Mitchel's method of dismantling the leftist memes.
In The Australian he writes
:
"Guardian Australia won in 2018 for its Deaths Inside database revealing 407 Australian Aboriginals had died in custody since the 1991 Deaths In Custody Royal Commission.

Yet many of them actually died of natural causes in prison, some in police car chases and some committed suicide."

A simple, factual rebuttal of the deaths in custody scam.
well done Chris.

The blogger uses Wikipedia a lot so he will be heartened to find just how left-wing it has become, as suits his own totalitarian instincts.
"The studies have concluded Wikipedia is even more left-biased than the Encyclopedia Britannica, left-wing indoctrination is pushed harder by leftist editors, liberal media is more pronounced in the mentions on that site, the reviews of politicians relies are left-wing sources, and conservative editors on the website are six times more likely to be sanctioned for their updates."

There was no "front line" in Vietnam.
But based on the majority of your posts, that level of ignorance is unsurprising.

On George Pell's watch, children were sexually assaulted by priests, and when the hierarchy became aware of it, they were moved from parish to parish. As a pastor, responsible for protecting his flock, he was an utter failure.

Look blogger, I write for an audience who understand that expression.
You don't, being obsessed with trivia and irrelevancies.
Words mean what I want them to mean and "front line" means that point at which enemy combatants are shooting at one another. You may not have experienced it.

Anyway, others with more impressive Vietnam experience than you use it so I'll continue to do so.

Am I interpreting this correctly - you believe Cardinal Pell knew about the sexual abuse by paedophile priests, did nothing about it, and was part of the decision making process in shifting perpetrators from parish to parish?

An inquiring John Grey.

Read the transcript of the Royal Commission and come to your own conclusions -https://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/final-report

The Royal Commission investigates and reports with suggestions. Criminal investigations against Pell failed. You seem to be missing something here. They couldn't prove anything that would satisfy the level of evidence required by a Court. The final appeal said it all with seven wigs all in agreeance.
I am aware of two cases in my experience where the State Education department became aware of child sexual abuse committed by a teacher and merely moved him on to teach elsewhere, twice. The church is by no means the only institution to display a failure to properly address these matters.

Oh dear - another flaw in the Covid 1984 deaths narrative:
"Over the summer, English figures were revised down by more than 5,000 after researchers at Oxford University discovered a flaw in the way Public Health England was registering deaths." The Spectator.

Rubbish.
Cardinal Pell was scapegoated. He did a lot of good work for victims of sexual abuse, especially when he created the Melbourne Response in 1996.
John Grey

The aberrant teacher was reported to Police. A catholic copper got the report and was privy to the "special treatment" of the paedophile. He was either lazy or considered the youth of the victims a problem getting evidence before a court. The education department just moved the heterosexual to an all boys school, never to be heard of again. The education department looks after their teachers. One I knew of was a teacher in her twenties that used to break into doctors' cars and steal their bags, which at the time contained drugs she was after. She even took two or three students along as she carried out the thefts and stashed the drugs in her home. She was sentenced without imprisonment and continued teaching. My point was that the education department and the church have serious judgement problems. Pell was found not guilty, by the way.

Trusting Covid statistics is a poor use of logic and brains.
Multiple false positives, ignoring comorbidities, no distinction between expiring with or of the Chinese flu, ignoring recovery rates, not valuing the different demographics of various countries, and the inherent mistakes in the testing process - all contribute to the paucity of the statistics posted by the blogger.

1735099 and ex digger, (possibly the same persona) since the reference put up by the blogger is to a site that cites world wide stats on the flu epidemic it is logical to believe that the blogger has included the statistical information in this discussion. It matters not that the reference is to an off-topic subject, which he has allowed to continue unabated. The blogger after all introduced the reference to attempt to /prove or disprove the comment of JG. To assume and state that no stats have been used in the blog is clearly at odds with the facts of the matter.

It would be much simpler to censor JG out of the the replies, as the blogger has the ability to do. The problem with that of course is that he loses 99% of his replies to the articles he posts. Not only does he lose JG, but Ex-digger, Jeannie and Maree would cease to exist, since since their comments relate only to attempts to denigrate John Grey in attempts to give the blogger credibility. Apparently this jousting occurs on another site. Perhaps this is 1735099's way of keeping it on home turf. Just a thought. At a guess the comment I reply to was put up by Ex-digger and he forgot to sign off.
