The Big Wet

Toowoomba's in the red bit.

The last time I saw a BOM radar scan like this one was in January 2010.

I hope we're not in for a repeat. It is moving very slowly, which means that the heavy concentrations of rain have time to fill local catchments. The ground is so sodden, after heavy rain about this time last month, so it won't take long.

My bride is spitting chips because she can't get the washing dry, and the laundry smells of wet dog.

I'm getting dirty looks from both dogs as if they think I'm responsible for the rain. I may be pack leader in their eyes, but I can't control everything.

Collecting my son from work and getting my daughter to orientation at USQ this evening could be interesting.

You are the only one who thinks you are the pack leader. The dogs are clever enough not to bite the hand that feeds them. They look at you that way because the laundry smells like wet dog and you haven't rectified the problem.

What a sunny little disposition you have. It must be a barrel of laughs at your place....

Only heelers.

I wasn't going to admit this for fear you would suggest that heelers were good judges of character, but I have spent a good many years, training Rotties and Shepherds and have had to contend with many territorial dogs of different orientations. In that time I have only been nipped by two, both of them heelers. They let you in but don't like to see you leave. Be sure to introduce them to valued visitors.

Over a period of more than two decades, we've owned four heelers. Not one has ever bitten me or any member of the family. One used to try to "rescue" the children when they were small and we took them swimming, and they occasionally ended up with scratches as he tried to pull them out of the water on to dry land.
Whenever we have visitors, they are introduced to the dogs up front.
We never leave the dogs unsupervised around small children.

They are reknowned for being loyal, protective and hard working. They won't bite the hand that feeds them.....unlike a great many humans I have had dealings with.
