Gawd, my training experiences were almost identical. Hootchie a frozen sheet of ice during "jungle warfare" training. Breaking a caribou on landing on a rough gravel strip, and having the rear door open to blow the smell out. We also got to experience low flying up valleys in the caribou, where you could look out the back and up and see the trees above you. However, I just loved grenades. Had one bloke in my section drop one in the gun pit during practice. The instructor grabbed him by the webbing and jumped out of the pit and took the trainee with him. Both pretty near crapped themselves in the process.

Similar personal grooming services (and a few others of a more intimate nature) were provided in certain establishments in Bangkok and other R & R destinations back then. These "others" were all that were offered in Vung Tau, and then only on R & C for non-POGOs. I'm not sure what Saigon warriors had access to, but would assume just about anything was available at a price in Tudo Street.
